72nd Street offers Walk up Kayaking every weekend and holiday from 10AM until 5PM with the last boat going out at 4:30, however on nice weekends there is often a very long line and we can not gaurantee you will have a chance to go out if you arrive after 4PM.
72nd Street has lockers but no changing rooms or running water, but there are facitlities nearby in Riverside Park. We have limited number of locks available, Please bring your own lock.
Rules
You must know how to swim. Before you go out, you must sign a waiver (one per person - good for the whole season) and put on a life jacket. Once on the water, obey all instructions, stay in the designated area, and stay away from the sea walls and the piers. Return to dock after 20 minutes and ask if we need the boat.
Persons under 18 can only go kayaking if a legal guardian is present to sign their waiver. The guardian must remain at our location while the child is on the water. Persons under 16 must go out in a boat with a suitable adult. Only one child may be in a boat at a time.
Group Visits
To be fair to the general public, all large group visits should give us advanced notice. All groups with children must give us advanced notice and must come with waivers signed by each child's legal guardian, and with a sufficient number of adult supervisors to maintain both discipline and safety. All supervisors going on the water must know how to swim.
We can run special programs for children during hours when the public program is closed (e.g. weekdays). Contact us for more details.
Directions:

WALKING - Our dock is attached directly to the waterside promenade in Riverside Park, approximately at 72nd St. Take the 72nd St. stairs into the park and follow the walkway to the river, and you will find us.
KAYAKING - Our 72nd St. floating dock is about 200 yards south of the 79th St. Marina. At present, the gate to the dock is locked when we are not there. If we are closed, you could use the public dock at the Northern end of the marina, but technically you need a NYC Parks Department kayak launch permit to use the 79th St. Marina.
DRIVING - There is no nearby driving access to the 72nd St. dock. One would have to park on Riverside Drive, which is always crowded, then walk down.
